Should couples have separate bank accounts?

This question always makes many heads spin.  Some people say couples having separate bank accounts is a must, while others say no.

Friends of the couple often give conflicting advice – since everyone has their own opinion on this subject.

We believe having separate bank accounts depends on the communication between the couple.  For example, it is important to:

Remember your partnership. Separate accounts can be beneficial.  You can see who is spending what, but you can also see who is shutting the door making banking a private experience.  Don’t forget – this is a partnership, meaning money is a partnership too.  If you are going to have separate bank accounts, your bank account should always be open to your partner’s eyes.

Know your money personality. What is your weakness?  What do you normally spend money on? Are you a saver or do you run for the bargains? Are you a spender? Make sure your significant other knows your money personality.

The most important thing to remember is every aspect of your relationship is a partnership.  Your relationship is a business partnership, with weekly or monthly meetings to review financials.  Decide where your “board room” is.  Is your board room your office, kitchen, or dining room table?

During this meeting, make sure you come clean and be honest on spending and savings, as well as debt. Be sure to state your money needs, and state your money dreams, after all, you two are in this together.

Grooming the Groom

A beautifully dressed bride requires a handsomely suited groom. When choosing a tux, note the time of day and the season in which the wedding will take place.

Spas certainly welcome members of both sexes, so why not plan a spa day for you and your groomsmen? There are even spas that cater exclusively to men. Let the guys get their hair cut and styled, have massages, facials, man-icures, or pedicures so they can look and feel their best on the wedding day, too. Many spas have special packages for men and can also put together packages for the entire wedding party.

Hair and skin are definitely tops on a groom’s priority list. If you have problem skin, a few months before the wedding would be a great time to start a new skin care regimen. This may include facials or just some expert advice on how to properly use a new line of skin cleansing and moisturizing products.
Though a bad haircut definitely takes less time to grow out for a man, you’ll want to try out any new hair style a few months before the wedding, just in case it doesn’t turn out as planned. Same thing on facial hair—if you want to shave off the mustache or beard, you might want to go hairless with ample time to fill in tan lines or grow it back.
If you have any dental issues preventing you from smiling in all those wedding photos, see your dentist six months to a year prior to your wedding to have any major work done. Some procedures require several trips to the dentist or oral surgeon over a several month period, so you’ll want to get it all done well before your wedding day arrives.

Get the Royal Treatment at the Exclusive Ravisloe Golf Club

There’s an endless list of decisions that must be made when planning a wedding (as if I have to tell you that). Indoor or outdoor? Food stations or plated entrees? Band or DJ? Peonies or roses? Whatever wedding you’ve always pictured,  will transform your vision into a perfect reality, down to the very last detail. Located in Homewood, Illinois, and constructed in 1901, Ravisloe was once a private establishment frequently visited by Chicago celebrities and golfing greats. Fortunately for us, it was opened up to the public in 2009 so everyone can enjoy the venue’s unique beauty.

Ravisloe may no longer exclusively host the rich and famous, but that doesn’t mean you won’t receive the royal treatment as a bride. Allow me to give you the inside scoop on what to expect when you select this country club as your wedding venue.

Built-In Beauty

One of the best parts about getting married at Ravisloe is that it provides its own natural decor. The venue’s lavish, Gilded Age architecture remains intact to bring a unique, historic feel to your big day. At Ravisloe, you can get married inside or outside—whichever matches your wedding vision— or the weather. If you decide to tie the knot under Homewood’s blue sky, you can make your grand entrance among lush greenery in a breathtaking, spacious courtyard dressed in ivy. Talk about a stunning backdrop for photos!

Ravisloe also offers a grand, indoor ballroom, allowing you to exchange vows surrounded by arched floor-to-ceiling windows with warm, natural light pouring in. The cathedral ceilings, farmhouse-like white cross beams, and wrought-iron chandeliers create a setting that exudes a perfect combination of rustic charm and sophistication.

Whether you decide to say “I do” in the courtyard or the ballroom, let me be the first to assure you there is no wrong choice. Each location offers its own individual allure.

Peace of Mind

On your wedding day, you should be treated like a celebrity. And at Ravisloe, you will be. Get this: When you decide on a date to tie the knot, you will be the only bride getting married at Ravisloe on that day. In fact, your wedding will be the only event taking place. Ravisloe is yours and only yours on the day of your wedding. And that’s how it should be! The venue’s experienced staff will dedicate all of their time and attention to you, offering peace of mind that everything will be taken care of and no detail, no matter how big or small, will go unnoticed.

You’ll work with the venue’s in-house event specialist to coordinate every aspect of your wedding day and ensure your Pinterest board vision comes to life. Put any worries you have aside because Ravisloe’s wedding team will be there every step of the way.

A Custom Menu … And I Do Mean Custom

Alright, let’s get to the good stuff. Food. At Ravisloe, there are no limits as to what can be put on your menu. Whatever appetizers, entrees, and desserts you decide on, Ravisloe will host a complimentary tasting so you and your other half can be sure what you’re putting on your menu tastes just as you imagined.

Before you decide which foods will be on your wedding day menu, however, you must first decide how you’d like the fare to be served. The style and personality of your wedding can help you make this decision. If you’d like to keep your nuptials traditional, you may opt for plated entrees brought out by Ravisloe butlers. If that doesn’t sound like your style, let your guests pack their plates at various food stations set up around the venue. Bring the taste of Chicago to Homewood with a traditional Chicago hot dog bar complete with all the trimmings, from pickled sport peppers to bright green relish. No brb, going to Portillos.

Worried about vegan and gluten-free guests? Stress no more. Ravisloe’s chefs will work tirelessly to ensure your menu accommodates any dietary needs. After all, you should be focused on getting married, not worrying about whether your second cousin was served filet mignon instead of eggplant Parmesan. Ravisloe has it covered.

Late Night Fuel

All that dancing and celebrating can really take it out of you and your guests, but the party must continue! What’s the best way to keep a party going, you ask? I think you know the answer to this one. It’s food! Ravisloe will bring in any number of late-night options. You may want to have your photographer capture the looks on your guest’s faces when piping hot Aurelio’s pizza and White Castle Crave Crates are brought through the doors. Cue jaw drops. If you have a sweet tooth, Ravisloe can put together a late night sweets table for you and your guests to indulge.

Luxury Guest Accommodations

A short three minutes away from Ravisloe is the venue’s sister property: La Banque Hotel. This hotel has the same refined, upscale feel as Ravisloe, offering 18 lavish guest rooms for your friends and family. Located inside La Banque Hotel is La Voute Bistro Bar, which is perfect for a rehearsal dinner, wedding after party or post-wedding brunch. Just like Ravisloe, this French-inspired bistro bar will help you create an event that matches your style and vision. Plus, La Voute can remain open for your wedding party until 2 a.m. so you can keep the party going late into the night.

Added Benefits

At Ravisloe, every wedding package comes with certain perks that both you and your guests will love.

  • Discounted golf: If you have guests coming in from out of town, they’re going to need something to keep them busy before your wedding. What better way to pass the time than on Ravisloe’s highly rated golf course? And for the newlyweds, Ravisloe offers a complimentary golf foursome.
  • Private wedding suite: You’ll be set up with an elegant, private suite the day of your nuptials so you and your wedding party can relax before the festivities begin.
  • Centerpieces: Ravisloe will dress up your tables with complimentary lily bowl centerpieces complete with floating candles to set the tone for the evening.
  • Padded chairs and floor-length satin tablecloths are available to give the space an upscale feel.
  • And more!

Outdoor Distinctly Chicago Engagement Session

adorable Chicago engagement

How adorably charming are Iliana + Jamie? You can tell by glancing at their engagement photos throughout the city that they have fallen head over heels for one another.

Nicole Jansma Photography says, “These two are fairly new to Chicago, so they wanted their engagement session to feature their new home and be very ‘Chicago.'”

Deciding to spend their first part of the session walking around the Loop a bit for a downtown vibe, the couple started by the Art Institute of Chicago and then made their way to one of their favorite intersections at State and Jackson. Their casual look was perfect for a stroll through the city streets.

For the second half of the shoot, they wanted the best view of the city, so they headed to Adler Planetarium and changed into something dressier. Iliana’s peach dress with her bold statement necklace and Jamie’s pale blue top looked absolutely gorgeous against the lake.

About halfway through their time at Adler, magic happened when the sun found its way out of the clouds. “It was truly the golden hour,” Nicole says.
