Red, Gold and Afro-Caribbean Charm for Alexandra & Aisosa
Rooted in the bride’s Jamaican-British background and the groom’s Nigerian Edo heritage, Alexandra (“Alex”) and Aisosa’s wedding was a vibrant, Afro-Caribbean celebration of culture, connection and unmistakable style.
Despite demanding schedules, Alex immersed in her studies for her post graduate law degree and Aisosa deep into his surgical residency, the two met in New York and carved out time for a first date. Sparks flew, and at a cozy Harlem speakeasy, even the bartenders couldn’t believe it was their first date.
Though they grew up worlds apart — Aisosa in Chicago after being born in Nigeria, and Alex in London — the two quickly bonded over a shared love of Afro-centric music, global cuisine and a mutual itch to travel at any opportunity. So when it came time to plan their big day, they knew it had to be a larger-than-life tribute to their love, lineage and the many adventures still to come.
Avante Banquets in Fox River Grove provided the perfect canvas for their 450-guest affair. The space bloomed with lush florals, golden accents and Afro-Caribbean glamour. Traditional Edo attire and coral beads reflected Aisosa’s roots, while a vibrant menu of charcuterie-style canapés, Jamaican favorites and Nigerian classics honored both families’ culinary traditions. The soundtrack kept the energy high, spinning from the U.K. to the U.S., then back to Jamaica and Nigeria, all in one unforgettable dance set.
From the ceremony to the last song, Alex and Aisosa’s wedding was a joyful intersection of heritage, heart and memories in the making. Above all, it was a celebration that beautifully honored where they came from and where they’re headed, together.
