Kellie and Richard spent their summers in the same Lake Geneva area neighborhood as kids, but it wasn’t until after college that they reconnected during a neighborhood potluck.
At the end of the night, Richard walked her home and they talked for hours on the pier. The next day, he asked her out, and they later got engaged on the Geneva Lake shore path with their dog, Stella, by their side.
When it came time to plan their wedding, the couple agreed they wanted to celebrate their love in the area where it all began, so they opted to host the ceremony at Oakwood Estates Park and the reception at Pier 290. To capitalize on the beauty of the venues and the lakefront, Kellie and Richard kept their décor classic and romantic with a white, navy and slate color palette.
The guest list reflected Kellie and Richard’s large families and closest friends. To keep things intimate and cozy, they used mismatched table sizes and styles so guests could sit with people they knew — an idea for social distancing due to COVID-19 that they ultimately loved, as it lent to the “at home” atmosphere of the reception.
Kellie says for her, the most memorable part of their special day was the end of the reception when the DJ played “Piano Man,” and everyone circled around them and sang. “It was such an incredible ending to the reception, and we just felt so much love from our favorite people.”
