Maya & Michael’s Warm, Greek Orthodox and Jewish Wedding at The Ivy Room
True Chicago natives, Maya and Michael grew up in the same neighborhood and even attended the same high school. But it wasn’t until one summer home from college that their paths finally crossed and a relationship blossomed. Eight years later, they said “I do” surrounded by ivy-draped walls and the pulse of the city they love.
Marrying at The Ivy Room meant marrying in a quiet escape tucked inside a bustling city. Framed by surrounding buildings and fire escapes, its courtyard offered that quintessential Chicago atmosphere they wanted to welcome guests into — a hidden gem in the middle of it all.
With Maya being Jewish and Michael Greek Orthodox, their relationship and wedding beautifully reflected a blending of backgrounds and traditions. The couple exchanged vows underneath a Chuppah elegantly draped in florals and fabric while Maya wore a made-to- measure gown from Israeli designer Tal Kedem Couture. With Michael’s oldest brother officiating, Greek Orthodox tradition was honored as the couple received the Stefana — the sacred, interconnected crowns symbolizing two becoming one.
That warmth carried indoors, with an intentionally romantic and timeless aesthetic. A palette of white, cream and ivory blooms set against abundant greenery outdoors gave way to warm chandeliers, tapered candles and amber uplighting that bathed the reception space in a golden glow.
For two people who fell in love with each other in Chicago, there was never really any other place to get married. From the urban courtyard to the candlelit checkered dance floor, the evening was as enduring as the city itself.
