When Ashley first came across Brandon’s profile on Hinge, her gut reaction was a pass. Not because she didn’t think he was handsome, but because he shared a first name with her brother. But one lonely night months later, she spotted him online again and figured, “Why not?” And just like that, they went on the last first date of their lives.
Six years later, the couple celebrated with an intimate New York City-meets- Chicago celebration at Beatnik in West Town. After travels to a maximalist hotel in California, the couple was determined to find an equally stimulating venue in Ashley’s hometown of Chicago. Beatnik fit the bill, featuring globally curated treasures from the restaurant’s owners’ travels abroad and a sultry boho-chic aesthetic. Since Ashley and Brandon live in New York, they sent Ashley’s mother for an initial venue vibe-check. On her way out, she spotted the couple’s soon- to-be shared last name,“GOLDBLATT,” emblazoned on the building directly across the street. That sign sealed the deal. Kismet.
The couple leaned into the intimate, dinner-party energy by ditching the traditional wedding script — starting with a surprise act for cocktail hour.
Mentalist Sidney Friedman wowed guests with his powers of premonition, weaving through the room with mind- reading feats and interactive games. With 115 guests, the Brooklyn-based couple hosted a celebration with all the grit and soul of The Windy City and The Big Apple. From a Hinge profile she almost swiped past to a last name etched in brick, the signs were always pointing here. Even if two of them happen to be named Brandon.
