Theodora and Derrius’ love story began serendipitously, as they met by chance at the Virgin Hotels Chicago’s rooftop bar, each celebrating different milestones with their respective friend groups. There was an instant magnetism between them, and they couldn’t help but catch each other’s eyes throughout the evening. Little did they know that this chance encounter would lead them to exchange vows on the sky level terrace of The Penthouse Hyde Park, completing a full circle rooftop love story.
The couple had a clear vision for their wedding day — an elegant, romantic and unforgettable event with a fusion of past and future elements. Drawing inspiration from The Penthouse Hyde Park’s authentic 1920s aesthetic, they embraced the venue’s ornate chandeliers, bold art deco flooring and gilded accents. Their chosen color palette of sage green, mint blue and ivory perfectly complemented the venue’s splendor, allowing their guests’ colorful attire to infuse vibrancy into the space.
The reception was a joyous and festive affair, with a full dance floor. As a first-generation Nigerian-American, Theodora incorporated Nigerian cultural touchstones into the celebration, including the tradition of “money spraying.” This ancient tradition from the Yoruba people involves loved ones showering the couple with money as a symbol of happiness, good fortune and affection.
Theodora and Derrius’ wedding was a curated and unforgettable experience that left their guests marveling for months afterward.
