Love, Culture and Dance: Kathia & Andrew’s Wedding at The Armour House
Rooted in Mexican heritage and a strong sense of community, Kathia and Andrew’s wedding at The Armour House at Lake Forest Academy radiated warmth. With a pumpkin old fashioned as their signature cocktail and a palette that moved late summer into autumn, their late August wedding was the perfect seasonal transition.
The couple first met in 2015 when they were paired for a new trick on their hip-hop dance team. Soon, they learned that a passion for dance was just the tip of the iceberg of their commonalities. Both have a passion for service and giving back. Together, they’ve been youth leaders for years, leading mission trips and volunteering to create a safe space for love and care, no matter someone’s background or beliefs.
Their ceremony took place on the grand lawn of The Armour House, where Kathia and Andrew exchanged emotional vows. “We both couldn’t stop crying, overwhelmed with love for one another and for the families that raised us,” Kathia shared.
Honoring Kathia’s Mexican heritage was thoughtfully woven throughout the day. For instance, a mariachi band led the recessional and a candy table overflowed with traditional sweets. As foodies, the menu and catering were another huge part of the night. The in-house catering team at Armour House wowed them, and to this day the couple still talk about the the mini lobster rolls!
When it came time to dance, the energy was electric. Given their history on a hip-hop team, a lively dance floor was a must — and it delivered. Guests stayed on their feet all night, with Andrew even finding himself in an impromptu breakdance battle. Their DJ, Don Carlo Events, stepped up the the plate swinging. Blending the genres of house, Spanish and American pop and Banda, DJ Don Carlo kept guests dancing all night.
Looking back, Kathia describes the night as unforgettable. “It really did feel like a dream — one of those nights you wish you could relive over and over.”
