Local Love – Kelsey & Ward at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa
Kelsey and Ward’s relationship began over walks to and from a shared Integrative Biology class when they were both students at the University of Illinois. Their mutual love for all things outdoors and being active, paired with the way their personalities balanced each other, made it clear they were meant to be together. Deciding to get married in Chicago was easy as they both grew up in the suburbs and fell in love with the landscape and serenity of Galena.
The sun was out in full force for Kelsey and Ward’s Big Day. The girls started their morning early with face masks, mimosas, and lots of laughter while they chatted and had their hair and makeup done. The groomsmen enjoyed some football and a celebratory shot of tequila while they got ready. For their First Look, Kelsey and Ward arrived separately at a secluded creek where Ward couldn’t help but shed a tear or two when he saw his beautiful Bride-to-be.
The wedding ceremony felt extra special as Ward’s best friend, Lauren, officiated with her trademark blend of humor and sincerity, even incorporating surprise blown-up portraits of Kelsey and Ward as babies and high-schoolers as well as photos from their parents’ own wedding days. After exchanging the vows they wrote for each other, they ventured inside to the reception venue overlooking Lake Galena. Kelsey described their vision for the reception as “elegant, yet with a feel of bringing the outdoors inside,” which they accomplished beautifully given the vaulted, wood-beam ceilings, picturesque views from the floor-to-ceiling windows, and centerpieces boasting purple flowers and greenery. Silver sequin tablecloths added some extra “bling” to the space.
For Kelsey and Ward, the excitement of their wedding began first thing in the morning and lasted until the final song of the night. Ward especially loved taking pictures with the wedding party because, “There was so much laughter and excitement. My best man, Jim, brought a softball and we all played catch in the middle of a golf course.” Kelsey was especially appreciative of all their friends and family who made them feel loved and celebrated. She said her favorite memory of the day was, “When we were dancing at the reception and I finally had a chance to take in everything. Looking around and seeing all of our friends and family smiling and celebrating us
made me realize how lucky we were.”
