Keely & Sebastian’s Spanish-Inspired Wedding

Keely & Sebastian
Sarasota, FL

With its beautiful Spanish-colonial architecture, indoor and outdoor spaces and picturesque sunset, The Powel Crosley Estate was the perfect setting for a Spanish-inspired wedding. The couple exchanged vows in an intimate evening ceremony at the venue’s pavilion with just under 100 of their closest family and friends in attendance. Keely wore a stunning customized light blue Ines Di Santo gown with a single shoulder strap adorned with hand-made wired lace butterflies. Her bridesmaids wore emerald satin dresses and carried bouquets of white blooms and small oranges. Sebastian and his groomsmen wore cream smoking jackets with black lapels and bow ties with white pin dots.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the back patio, then moved inside for a custom-designed dinner inspired by Spanish cuisine and an assortment of passed desserts. The reception décor was simply classic. A mix of tall and short centerpieces with magnolias and oranges—in honor of the bride’s late father—sat atop crisp ivory linens, perfectly complementing the ornate space. As a tribute to members of Sebastian’s family who were unable to travel from Mexico, hand-painted talavera tiles were placed at every seat, serving as favors. The celebration moved back out to the patio for a night of top hits and Latin pop, including an appearance by the best man’s band and a special acoustic rendition of “Despacito”—a moment that everyone still talks about!

“This was my go-all-out moment. I’m a ridiculously picky comparison shopper. After trying on nearly 80 dresses in four states, I ended up with an ice-blue Ines Di Santo custom gown. It was fitted with one illusion shoulder strap decorated in hand-made lace butterflies. Each had special wire in its wings and antennae so they could stand up as if alighting on my shoulder. I wanted an overskirt, so the team at Carine’s Bridal Atelier in DC contacted Ines Di Santo to ask for designs. We settled on a cascading version in the same blue material with a long train. It bustled in the most beautiful way. Let me tell you: This was the dress of a lifetime. I’ve never seen anything like it, and likely never will.” -Keely

“We chose white magnolias and small oranges as a tribute to some of my dad’s favorite things. My mom walked me down the aisle and my uncles (both his best friends) split my first dance.” -Keely

“Our flowers were fabulous. Truly. Classic but still surprising. The ceremony space was decorated with large, white magnolia blossoms on garlands of magnolia leaves. The centerpieces for the reception were white garden rose, ranunculus and lily of the valley with magnolia and gardenia leaves plus small oranges throughout. The oranges really made the flowers unique and tied in the Spanish flavor of the wedding.” -Keely

“The best man Nick played an acoustic version of “Despacito” during the reception. One of the other groomsmen, Jose, had been practicing a surprise cameo to rap the Daddy Yankee verses. Everyone went wild when he started rapping. It’s probably the moment of the wedding everyone still talks about most.” -Keely
