Christina & Sean’s Delphinium-Filled Wedding at Rockwell on the River
Delicate and airy, Christina and Sean’s Rockwell on the River wedding bloomed in shades of the bride’s favorite flower — the sky-hued delphinium. The bloom’s soft blue hue guided the event’s design, creating an atmosphere that perfectly reflected the couple’s personalities.
While Christina and Sean envisioned a palette of pastels and spring florals, their October date posed a challenge. Florist EV Design Collective met it with a creative twist on fall pastels, pairing fern-colored velvet linens and smoky accents with delicate floral hues.
The couple met online, but quickly were drawn together by a network of mutual friends and colleagues in the world of computer security. Their first date felt serendipitous. Sean, in New York to scout neighborhoods for a future move, and Christina, in town visiting family, found themselves wandering the Lower East Side. They remember the night as “magical,” a mix of city lights and easy laughter. Months later, when Sean made the leap to relocate, Christina trusted her instincts and joined him in the city they had first explored together.
On their wedding morning, the Chicago skyline and river views set the backdrop Christina and Sean got ready with their wedding parties at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel. Once dressed, Christina and Sean shared a sweet first look along the riverwalk, framed by vining greenery and stonework. From there, the celebration took to the river itself, with guests boarding a Wendella Boats vessel for a pre-ceremony cocktail cruise.
The cruise ended at Rockwell on the River, where guests disembarked for a dreamy outdoor ceremony. Golden light cast a dreamy glow as a semi-circle of florals enveloped the couple. In a nod to Sean’s Irish heritage, they incorporated a Celtic handfasting ritual into the ceremony, concluding with guests joining in to sing the traditional Irish song “The Parting Glass.”
The reception was as flavorful as it was beautiful. With a menu from Entertaining Company that impressed guests from start to finish. Late-night bites of mini Chicago-style hot dogs and deep-dish pizzas gave out-of-town attendees a true taste of the city.
From the river’s gentle current to the layered tones of soft blue and autumn green, every detail seemed to echo the balance Christina and Sean have found together — light yet grounded, thoughtful yet effortless.
