A Whimsical Garden Ceremony and Rooftop Reception for Jasmine & Tyler
From the garden-vibes ceremony to the rooftop reception, Jasmine and Tyler’s Chicago wedding was a full of bright blooms and unforgettable personal touches. This celebration planned in just eight months included guests in vibrant cultural attire, DIY details at every turn, a surprise birthday celebration for the bride’s mom and tons of love.
Jasmine — originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — and Tyler — from Grand Rapids, Michigan — met in a freshman Calculus class at Western Michigan University. Over the next four years, they navigated college life together before making the move to Chicago.
From the start, Jasmine had a specific vision for the event’s aesthetics. But more importantly, she prioritized creating a day that represented them. The bride’s dream of a garden wedding came to life in the courtyard of the Chicago History Museum. Bright, happy colors and whimsical floral arrangements set the tone, while custom wedding newspapers awaited guests on each seat. And of course, the day wouldn’t have been complete without a special “dog of honor” appearance from their beloved pup, Finley.
After the vows, the celebration shifted from garden romance to sleek city vibes at Morgan’s on Fulton in the West Loop. The rooftop venue offered panoramic skyline views while still feeling surprisingly intimate. Guests enjoyed custom temporary tattoos during cocktail hour, while thoughtful DIY details — hand-drawn matchboxes, a photo shelf with thrifted frames of childhood snapshots and family wedding photos and a large canvas portrait as the guestbook — added even more personality. Wanting to honor the cultural diversity in their lives, Jasmine and Tyler asked attendees to wear their best traditional attire. “Seeing all our guests in various different cultural outfits was such a huge reminder of how far we’ve come and all the people that had helped us get to that day,” said Jasmine.
By the end of the night, everyone present would feel how thoughtfully the day was put together. “So many people told us they could see every little detail and how well-curated everything was,” Jasmine reflected. “I’m so glad we put in the work to DIY so many of the most memorable things — those are the elements that made the day truly about our love.”
