A Deco-to-Disco Party for Maiysha & Namir at The Penthouse at Hyde Park

In a celebration reminiscent of the Harlem Renaissance-meets-Beyoncé’s “Renaissance,” Maiysha and Namir’s wedding was a full-on Deco-to-disco vibe. Hosted in their own Hyde Park neighborhood, these two creatives crafted a day brimming with the perfect mix of classic glamour and modern sensibility.

Their story began with a meet-cute worthy of a rom-com, fitting for a pair of storytellers. In 2019, Namir, an actor, was starring in a Steppenwolf Theatre production, and Maiysha, a musician-turned-journalist, was assigned to cover the show. While wrapping up her notes at the theater bar post-performance, Namir confidently approached and struck up a conversation. Hours passed in what felt like minutes. To avoid a journalistic conflict of interest, Maiysha initially resisted meeting again. But once the article was published, her curiosity won out. The rest, as they say, is history.

Their venue, Penthouse Hyde Park, offered sweeping city and lake views. Paired with a black-and-white palette and plenty of Art Deco flair, it mirrored the couple’s personal style perfectly. Set against that chic backdrop, the wedding came alive with cool jewel tones and artistry. The pièce de résistance? A pair of 5-by-6-foot abstract paintings by the bride’s sister, Kamari of 983 Studio. Originally envisioned as a single piece, the artwork evolved into two distinct yet harmonious canvases — much like the couple themselves. Today, the paintings hang in their home, a reminder of the day two stories became one.

From vivid florals and soaring palms to the expressive celebration of Black culture, Maiysha and Namir’s wedding was truly a one-of-a-kind work of art.
