Joey & Jon’s Chicago Art Deco Wedding
They say that the olfactory sense holds an intimate connection with sentimentality and emotions. For Jon and Joey, this was certainly the case. The couple met when Jon was subbing on Joey’s co-ed softball team. Drawn to Joey, Jon asked her what type of perfume she was wearing — and thus, Chance Chanel’s scent is what first brought them together.
Joey and Jon’s wedding day was inspired by the city of Chicago, “The Great Gatsby” and the Art Deco style of their wedding venue. The ceremony was held at one of the grandest cathedrals in Chicago: St. Mary of the Angels in Wicker Park. Its Renaissance Revival-style architecture, lofty ceilings and long aisle made it a bride’s dream.
Joey stunned in a gorgeous custom-made illusion top and silk organza overskirt for the Catholic church ceremony. For the reception, the modest look transformed into a modern iteration, showcasing a strapless, trumpet gown paired with tulle elbow gloves. The groom sported an outfit change for the reception as well, going from his traditional black tuxedo into a timeless white dinner tux jacket.
Gold touches adorned the reception, evoking the city’s twinkling skyline. In the 1920s-built Theater on the Lake, guests could enjoy views of both the skyline and Lake Michigan.
After two years and three date changes, this happy couple finally got to have the celebration they deserved, and every part of it was perfect.
