Laura & Matthew are “Better Together”
Laura and Matthew’s Fulton Market wedding centered around the concept of “better together.”
“As a couple, we always consider ourselves better together than we are apart,” says the bride. “We’re a team and we bring out the best in each other every day.”
The couple brought together contrasting items to tell this story. Juxtaposition of such elements created an experience that was better than all the individual items apart. A casual atmosphere with upscale food; a location with metal and brick contrasted with light and color; and an intimate ceremony in the middle of a big city are all examples of this juxtaposition.
The Couple, In Their Own Words
“Our story begins after college. We were both living out the millennial dream and living with our parents while attempting to break into the next chapter of our lives. Matt was applying to med schools, Laura was searching for a job. It was during this time that our paths crossed and our story began to be written.
Our first date was on September 6, 2014. We shared a flight of martinis and closed down the restaurant bar. Laura was intrigued by Matt’s illuminating smile, humility, and sense of humor. Matt was captivated by Laura’s tales of exploring Europe, her kindness, and her spirit of adventure.
In 2015, Laura moved out of the suburbs and to Chicago and Matt began medical school at Midwestern University in Downers Grove. We spent every weekend of the next two years taking the Metra back-and-forth, cramming in as much quality time as we could in those 48 hours. Our relationship grew on a solid base of long walks, lots of dinners out, and endless IPAs from our favorite restaurant DryHop.
After finally moving in together and beginning life together in Chicago-proper, it wasn’t until 2020 that Matt popped the big question. In December, Matt drove Laura to the Morton Arboretum in Lisle –a place with a lot of nostalgia from those early years spent in the suburbs. Within minutes of walking into the park, he got down on one knee and asked Laura to be his wife, to spend the rest of our lives side-by-side, to grow better together.
The Wedding
This wedding is undeniably stylish. From the bride’s chic, BHLDN column gown to unquestionably cool couples portraits by Nicole Donnelly throughout the heart of West Loop – the essence of urban sophistication radiated.
Laura and Matthew selected Morgan’s on Fulton in the West Loop neighborhood for their venue. The location hit every criteria they were aiming to meet – it feels quintessentially Chicagoan, has an amazing staff, top notch food and drink, a multi-purpose space and an indoor/outdoor floorpan.
The couple loved easily moving people from one beautiful space to another, and the jaw drop when going to the rooftop of Morgan’s on Fulton was the icing on the cake. The venue set the scene for a laid back, fun, “let’s party”ambiance. The venue’s outdoor space allowed for multiple experiences during the reception. Guests could stay indoors and dance along with the DJ or they could step outside into the quiet deck and have a conversation. A little bit for everyone, if you will.
Throughout the stunning festivities, a palpable feeling of love from friends and family was undeniably present. Laura and Matthew are “better together,” indeed.
