Rustic + Contemporary Wedding at Mistwood Golf Club
All it took was a little fate to bring Kate + Colin together. As you browse through their beautiful wedding photos sent to us by Rebecca Haley Photography, you’ll agree with us when you say their smiles say it all.
{How they met} As a new teacher, Colin stopped by Kate’s classroom to welcome her to her new school. Three years later, a night with co-workers turned into a “sort-of date.” “Everyone else was either busy or sick, so we were the only two to show up at the restaurant,” Kate adds. Kate + Colin ended up chatting until the restaurant closed and seeing each other every single day for the remainder of the school year.
Colin proposed at Kate’s favorite winery, Free Run Winery in Berrien Springs, Michigan. After they completed their tasting, Colin told Kate to order a glass of wine so they could have a drink and walk around the outside of the winery around the vines. “I was talking non-stop and he wanted to stop and take a selfie. About two minutes later he said, “Do you know you mean the world to me?” and then I watched him get down on one knee,” Kate says.
The couple had a storybook wedding. “We fell for the stunning renovations at Mistwood Golf Club. It is absolutely beautiful!” Kate says. It also didn’t hurt that Colin loved the idea of having their wedding at the location of his favorite sport.
To play up their rustic look, they incorporated navy blue, sand, dark brown and green throughout their décor. Tall branches added height to their centerpieces thanks to Corrine Bachar and CR Flowers, as navy blue cards, bridesmaid dresses from David’s Bridal and groom ties played off the green fairway.
The bride was the belle of the ball in her strapless dress and gorgeous up do by Hairendipity. Thanks to the music from In the Mix Entertainment, guests had a fabulous time. For favors, friends and family took home stemless wine glasses with the couple’s initials and wedding date etched into the glass. “We wanted something that our guests were going to use after the wedding and relive all of the fun memories of the day,” Kate says.
Kate + Colin have two favorite moments: when her father got nervous and forgot what he was going to say when he gave his daughter away and when later that evening, to charm the bride even more, Colin wrote and sang a song for his new bride at the reception.

~ What they would do differently ~
“We would focus more on the overall day and the people that were there instead of all of the details of stressing about timing and making sure everything was perfect.”
~ Advice to other couple’s planning their wedding ~
“Everything will come together and your day will be perfect if you allow yourself to relax and enjoy every moment. If you stress too much about the details then you will spend the whole time focusing on some of the things that matter to you least after the day has passed. It goes by faster than you think so soak it all in.”
