Couples looking to host a wedding in the Chicagoland area have countless options to choose from. What makes The Barn at Allen Acres so unique?
The Barn at Allen Acres hosts one wedding a week, and we love helping our couples create their vision for their wedding event. The rental of the property is a weekend rental, which means that unlike at other properties, couples get to enjoy the venue from Friday through Sunday. They love staying in the farmhouse and have easy and continual access to the barn, gazebo, and fire pit. They have ample time not only to set up and enjoy the farm with their family and friends, but also to hopefully relax a little. When it comes to creating their “wedding team”, couples are welcome to use vendors of their choosing and while we don’t have a preferred vendor list, we’re more than happy to recommend vendors who we’ve worked with in the past that have done an amazing job. We also include all of our “props” into the price of the venue, so the quoted price does not change.
How is The Barn at Allen Acres adaptable?
The farm has a variety of indoor and outdoor ceremony options. Couples looking to get married indoors have access to the second floor of the barn, which features a stunning 26-foot vaulted ceiling and has a capacity of up to 200 people. If couples would prefer to hold their ceremony outdoors on the grass with our corn and bean fields as a backdrop, The Barn at Allen Acres offers this amazing option as well. Other great spots to tie the knot include our rustic gazerbo, which is made completely of barn wood, and the bottom floor of the barn, which features exposed beams and a unique rustic charm. It can hold just under 175 guests.
A new addition to our property this year is a deck off of the back of the large barn, which creates not only another option for ceremonies but also additional space for receptions and cocktail hours. When completed, it will have a capacity of over 300 guests and have two sets of large barn doors that can be opened and closed depending on weather conditions. An elevator is also being added for handicap accessibility.
Why does The Barn at Allen Acres enjoy hosting weddings?
We love helping all the couples who get married at the farm create a wedding weekend that’s uniquely them. For me personally, it’s a gift that so many people are able to enjoy my childhood home. I loved growing up on the farm and feel blessed that it will be a part of so many couples’ memories.
What are your tips for couples who are just starting the wedding planning process, especially those who are still trying to pick a venue?
Write down all of the things that you’d like your venue to have. Go ahead and dream! Once it’s on paper, prioritize what you’ve written down. Take the top five most important items- the ones you simply can’t live without- and start your venue search there. The rest will fall in place. We also recommend getting as much information as possible before you visit a venue. Look at pictures on the property’s website, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter, and read testimonials. Once you get to the venue, notice how accommodating the staff is. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. If a question is important to you, it should be important to the representatives of the venue as well. It’s also important to keep in mind that while this is probably your first time going through the wedding process, the venue staff goes through the process constantly. Use them as a resource and ask them how other couples have done things in the past.
