Nickie and Alex, and on how they knew they were perfect for each other…

“During our entire relationship, every step has felt so effortless. We have always been there for each other with whatever the other needs without hesitation.  That kind of love and understanding makes you realize that they are the one for you.”

Nickie, on why the couple decided to get married in the Midwest…

“We actually got married in Rock Falls, IL. It is a few hours west of Chicago and quite rural.  It has a true Midwestern feel, which we both loved because we both went to college in big college towns in rural areas.”

Nickie and Alex, on choosing the Barn at Allen Acres…
“As soon as we visited the Barn at Allen Acres, we knew that it was where we wanted to get married.   It was unique but still enough of a blank slate for us to put our spin on it to make it feel like our wedding day. The Barn and farmland once functioned as a real farm for the family that lived there (it is now run by the original owners’ granddaughter).  It is has original features but has a style that is very modern rustic. It is a space where you can feel how much family has been a part of it and the fact that it hosts weddings and brings families together is perfect.”
Nickie and Alex, one incorporating their families into their wedding day…
“We really wanted to include our family and friends in our wedding day as much as we could.  We had a good friend officiate our wedding, we used flowers from the yards of our family and friends, and a good friend made all of our bouquets and flower arrangements. One of Nickie’s sorority sisters did the bridal party’s hair, friends from work made all of the appetizers and sides, and we made all of our invitations and signage. And as a professional cake decorator, Nickie of course made our wedding cakes (which we used as center pieces on each table).”

Nickie, on her wedding day…
“The lasting impression from our wedding day is one that makes me smile. From waking up and setting up the tables,  putting on my dress, the first look and walking down the aisle, to heartfelt speeches and dancing the night away, I can’t help be feel love and joy whenever I think about how every effort Alex and I put into our wedding made it truly the best day.”
“I think that our wedding cake center pieces are a very special detail from our wedding day.  Since cakes are my life it was so great to to be able to make them such a visual part of the day.”
