Michelle and Derek first met through a mutual friend at a bar called The Scout but at the time, they were both seeing other people. “I remember thinking to myself, ‘Wow. This guy has the same look, style, and vibe that I do’,” Michelle shared. “Something about him was different than anything I’d ever found before.” Six months later when the pair happened to bump into each other again, they were both single and traded numbers. Their first date was a Wu Tang concert after party and the couple only grew closer from there.

The couple decided to get married in Chicago so that their out of town family and friends could be immersed in their Windy City lifestyle. Their ceremony was held on the Chicago History Museum’s private back patio and included a white hydrangea gazebo, live piano and violin music, and the breathtaking backdrop of planes soaring through the sky as part of the Air and Water Show. Following the ceremony, guests had the museum all to themselves and were able to check out the exhibits before heading to theWit Hotel’s rooftop bar for cocktail hour. Here, Michelle, Derek, and their family and friends enjoyed gorgeous skyline views and award-winning hors d’oeuvres, then headed downstairs for their full reception.

When asked about their favorite memories from their wedding day, the couple agreed that being able to incorporate their friends’ and family’s talents into their celebration made the day all the more special. Whether they were playing music, making ring bearer pillows, or officiating the ceremony, the couple’s loved ones played a huge role in Michelle and Derek’s wedding and the newlyweds made sure to thank them with a wide array of amazing gifts.
