Real Wedding: Katie + Ryan

Katie and Ryan’s golf course wedding was full of sentimental touches and miraculously beautiful weather. All photos by Gold Grid Studios.

Katie, on how she knew Ryan was the perfect person for her…
“I knew Ryan was the one when he could make me laugh and he understood my sarcasm & humor. His smile and bright blue eyes will always melt my heart and put a smile on my face. He also passed the test when he met my large extended family and gained all of their approval.”

Ryan, on knowing Katie was the one…
“I knew Katie was the one because she has a great sense of humor, a great personality, she is always there for me, she picks me up when I am down, she would make me laugh if I was sad, and her family and friends are great, and great to be around too…everything she has is what a guy needs and I found it…in her.”

Ryan, on his favorite memory from his wedding day…

“The first look. The reaction and pure emotion between us was indescribable and overall exciting to see her in her dress, she looked amazing.”

Katie, on why she and Ryan decided to tie the knot in Chicago…
“Ryan grew up in Aurora and I grew up in Downers Grove, so we knew we wanted to keep it semi-local for both of our family and friends. I grew up playing golf and working at Mistwood Golf Club and Ryan has grown to love Mistwood by playing golf with myself & family a lot over the summers. They had just built a beautiful brand new reception hall & restaurant. Since we have so much history with Mistwood, once we saw it we knew it would be a perfect place, we didn’t look at any other sites. “

Katie, on their ceremony…
“We dreamed of having our wedding outside on the stone patio at Mistwood, but having a November wedding we were being realistic and knew we were more than likely going to have to have the wedding inside due to the weather. We don’t know how we got so lucky but November 5th came and it was around 65 degrees with not a cloud in the sky and the sun shining! My dad likes to say that our grandparents wanted to have a perfect view of our wedding from heaven so they supplied the great weather.”

“I’ve always loved fall for the bright & vibrant colors of the leaves, so I used that as my inspiration for the flowers. I wanted to have bright flowers with different textures. I knew the colors would really pop up against the bridesmaids burgundy dresses and the navy blue table cloths on the reception tables. “

I have to say the first look as well, but I also really enjoyed being with our bridal party taking photos. It was fun to have time to just be around our close group of friends, joking around and having some good laughs. They helped calm our nerves and let loose and have a good time.”

Katie and Ryan, on their reception…

“We wanted our wedding day to be memorable for not only ourselves but our guests as well. We included unique touches and made sure to have lots of laughter throughout. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue or day!”
