Jim and Humberto initially met at the gym. “His energy is infectious,” Jim said. “Since day one, he’s made me a better person.” In the time following their first meeting, the pair discovered just how perfect they were for each other. “Jim lets me be angry when I’m angry, sad when I’m sad, and talkative when I feel like it,” Humberto explained. “And he dances with me in the living room. He’s the perfect teammate.”

Despite having many guests from out of town – particularly from Miami, where Humberto was born and raised – the couple decided to wed at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel on a beautiful September day. “Chicago is a city that all our guests could appreciate,” the couple said. “Whether they wanted to be tourists, foodies, health nuts or art lovers, they could achieve it.”

Since the couple was already living together, they decided to skip the traditional first look and get ready together while listening to a playlist of their favorite pop tunes. Their black tie ceremony hosted almost 200 hundred guests, and was held beneath three gorgeous, nineteenth-century chandeliers. After the ceremony, guests were ushered into a ballroom that overlooked Millennium Park and the harbor beyond.

“Being introduced as husbands to a room full of family and friends from all over the U.S. was such an exhilarating yet humbling experience,” Jim and Humberto said. The couple agreed that this was the highlight of the night, but said their entire wedding was full of perfect, serendipitous moments. One of their favorites? As luck would have it, the pair got married on the very last Saturday of the Navy Pier fireworks show, which turned out to be an amazing yet unexpected extra treat.
