Graffiti Mitzvah at Puritan Mill in Atlanta, GA

We were hired by a sweet family to make their daughter’s mitzvah a soiree to remember. Their two hundred guest list
included adults, children and teenagers alike who were celebrating at an old historical industrial factory. Our goal was to transfer to space into a night scene that encompassed an urban vibe while highlighting graffiti tradition in city life. There was no better way to begin the design process than starting with the blank slate and the natural elements the space held. The venue’s exposed bricks, steel beams, and polished concrete floors helped inspire the key features that made this party come to life . Just as graffiti artists use spray paint to make their art, we used mundane objects that are prevalent in city life that some might consider junk and turned it into a piece of visual eye candy for guests to enjoy throughout the night. It took ingenuity to find clever and fresh ways to create compelling decor elements that truly epitomized the essence of a graffiti style event without becoming kitsch and falling drab. For this event to create the city street atmosphere, we used different textures including aluminum, wood, brick, tires, and juxtaposed it with moss balls and daisy flowers to soften the overall feel. Many elements were hand crafted and painted especially for our client. In our studio, we fabricated wooden saw horse tables as the framework to different buffets and bars. In addition, for the highlight and focal point of the night, we designed a white washed brick facade customized with the mitzvah girl’s name that surrounded the DJ. To continue with bringing the outdoors inside we placed authentic trees around the perimeter of the dance floor. Since it was a night party, we wanted to make sure the room was illuminated and came to life.  We made sure some of the centerpieces had glowing elements; we accomplished this by washing the walls with light, bringing in light up tables for the kids to sit at, and having the DJ bring in light up cubes for the guests to dance on. Furthermore, a custom lounge area was created allowing the kids a modern and chic place to relax. In the end, the client’s goal was met by making a large empty space feel intimate and personalized.
