Can you give us an overview of the event?
The Pasadena Playhouse held their Annual Fundraising Gala to raise funds to support the Historic Theatre. To give the feel of an evening Garden Party, it was decided to have it at a private home of a Playhouse Patron in San Marino that could accommodate a large event. Guests arrived and were escorted through the Grand Entry of the home decorated by My Flower Guy. Entering under a crystal & floral chandelier, guest were greeted by members of the Playhouse while photos were taken in front of the Dramatic Floral pieces designed as a backdrop to the Who’s Who at the Gala Photographs. Once the photos were taken, Signature Cocktails were served along with scrumptious appetizers out on the Veranda and sunken garden cigar lounge with jazz playing in the background. Guests were then encouraged to take their seats out on the lawn to beautiful fuchsia linen covered tables and dramatic tablescapes with lots of jeweled bling. My Flower Guy used Jewel tone florals in mercury glass votive vases, pillar candle stands, along with tall crystal collared vases that upon sunset became candle lamps with sunken orchids. Even the table number frames were adorned with crystals. The colorful salads were placed on silver beaded crystal chargers and awaited the hungry guests. The guests were entertained by the Wayne Foster Band with Slow Jazz and Classics during dinner and energetic dance music after a surprise performance with past Playhouse Artists.
Amazing Desserts & Coffee were served inside the Formal Dining Room just off the outdoor lawn seating area while many of the guests danced the night away.
Was there a specific theme or style?
We Celebrated 2 Jewels of the Community, Philanthropist Michele Engeman, The Chair of the Pasadena Playhouse and The Pasadena Playhouse itself. I chose Jewel tones for the overall decor accented with lots of bling and sparkle. I chose fuchsia linens because they popped against the green lawn and the silver chiavari chairs would accent all the crystal and floral on the table.
What inspired the theme or style?
The Invitation was that of a Starry Night with Jewel Toned Festoon Lights strung across the sky. I decided to make that invitation come to life by how we decorated the event. I had Ambiance Lighting install the jewel tone festoon lighting above the dining areas of the lawn as well as the stage and dance floor areas. This provided real pops of jewel toned colors during the daylight hours as well as provided the right amount of ambient lighting needed during dinner. The florals, linens, and chairs all reflected the theme of celebrating these Jewels~!
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
This Black tie event was met with a requests that all the Ladies wear their most bedazzled and jeweled dresses. The beautiful frocks added to the festive nature of the event as well as the decor. The Guests were greeted with a fuchsia colored signature cocktail as they entered the Veranda and sunken garden, cigar lounge and whisky bar. The beautiful home and lawns were a nice change of scenery from the previous gala was held inside the historic Pasadena Playhouse. Great attention to detail was made from the selection of each appetizer, entree and dessert to the fuchsia ties and dresses of the Wayne Foster Band, to all the exquisite floral, decor and table scapes to drive home our Jewels of the Community theme. We surprised the Guest of Honor with some of her favorite singers from past Playhouse Shows who performed songs from those shows.
Tell us about the food and desserts.
The Kitchen for exploring foods prepared scrumptious appetizers that were meant to be enjoyed in one or two bites without dripping on someones bedazzled evening gown or tuxedo. Guest were greeted with colorful salads and hot green bean fries to start along with Wild Salmon and Tender Filets for dinner. Guest were then invited back into the home where the formal dining room was turned into a decadent dessert bar of mini treats to the delight of the sweet loving guests.
What kind of energy did your entertainment give the guests?
Wayne Foster Entertainment were an amazing addition to the event from performing jazz during the cocktail reception to classics during dinner. The Party really got started shortly after the surprise performances when the Band kicked it up to Dance Music of timeless classics.
