Love on the Lake
One day, after performing with their local gospel group, Jawaun offered Aaja a ride home. They both knew it was the beginning of something very special. The two began dating and soon Jawaun popped the question. One year later to the date, the pair married aboard the Mystic Blue cruise ship outside iconic Navy Pier.
It was one of those magical, 80-degree September days when they tied the knot. The sparkling city provided the perfect backdrop, and brightly colored blooms infused their unique, intimate wedding with an extra dose of personality.
Aaja walked down the aisle to a special arrangement of Brian McKnight’s “Love of My Life” Jawaun had created just for her. The bride describes, “He had a live saxophonist, which was a surprise. It was very special.”
Jawaun’s son served as the couple’s ring bearer. Aaja gushes, “He was so adorable in his tux and bow tie to match his dad. He wore the biggest smile when walking down the aisle.”
“One of my fondest memories of the day was sharing a special dance with all of the important men in my life – stepson, father, father-in-law, grandfather, pastor, and husband,” Aaja recalls. She remembers feeling overcome with wonderful emotions. “It was all so surreal.”
Jawaun, too, felt that the wedding could not have been more perfect. He says, “For me, the day was very special. I was a little nervous, but overall happy to spend the rest of my life with the one that God created just for me.”
