Katrina and Drew met while studying abroad in Australia. The pair instantly clicked and built a strong friendship before they actually began dating. After a year of long distance, Drew moved to Chicago and they’ve been together ever since.
While planning their Chicago wedding, Katrina and Drew chose the Gold Coast Room at The Drake both for its elegant opulence and the personal significance— the couple met on the Gold Coast of Australia. The couple decided to forego a first look and got ready separately before seeing each other for the first time at the church for their ceremony. Katrina got ready for the Big Day in her family home, relaxing with her bridesmaids while they enjoyed having their hair and makeup done. The limo transporting the bridal party to the church got a flat tire, but luckily they were able to call some Ubers to the rescue and everyone made it to the ceremony on time!
Guests adjourned the wedding ceremony for a high tea reception while Katrina, Drew and their wedding party headed down to the Chicago River for photos. Afterwards, they joined everyone for a cocktail hour. The couple went into the decorated reception before guests to get a sneak peek, where the beauty of the room took their breath away. The classic elegance of the ivory and white florals against the gilded gold details of the room made a spectacular sight. Everyone was mesmerized by The Drake’s traditional “champagne parade,” where dozens of white-gloved servers march out to pour champagne for a toast all at once. The band kept the dance floor busy all night, and Katrina and Drew even led a spontaneous conga line through the room at one point.
The happy couple soaked up the joy of the day, with two moments that stuck out as particularly memorable. After the excitement of the ceremony and following photo shoot, Katrina and Drew were left completely alone to enjoy some treats and champagne before joining guests for cocktail hour. “It was the first time the entire day we were able to take a few minutes and enjoy each other and the huge step we just took,” Katrina said. The other highlight of the day was taking photos on the rooftop of The Drake. They were both in awe of the impressive views they had of the city.
