First Came Friendship

They say the best relationships begin with a solid friendship. For Lauren, that friendship was between her future husband Chris and her brother. After years of unspoken interest, Chris marshaled his courage and asked his best friend’s little sister out for coffee. Lauren recalls, “Of course, I said yes!”

Eight years later, she gave the same reply when Chris proposed in Cancun while on a family vacation. “It came as a complete surprise to me, and I was thrilled!” says the bride. “It was a great experience to share with my family, and I was so glad they were part of it.”

On a late September afternoon with clear skies and warm weather, Chris and Lauren came together for a first look before the day began. Lauren remembers, “This moment gave us the opportunity to soak it all in before the rush of the ceremony and reception. It was like we were both in a little snow globe for a few minutes, just Chris and I.”

The couple said their vows in the courtyard of the Herrington Inn and Spa surrounded by family and friends. Their blush, apricot and berry-colored flowers formed a beautiful archway, framing the natural landscape and the serene Fox River. A violinist and an acoustic guitar duo set the perfect atmosphere for an elegant ceremony and a classic cocktail hour.

A live band kept the energy alive all night long, as guests dined and danced to their hearts’ content. But for Lauren, “Nothing was more enjoyable than calling the man next to me my husband at the end of the night.”
