chicagostyle real weddings: Tara Wojnicki & Jay Cox
Tara Wojnicki and Jay Cox really owe Tara’s sister Kristy a huge favor; for it was at her birthday dinner where they met. Although they felt a connection, the two lost touch after the party. Exactly one year later at Kristy’s 21st birthday they were reunited and this time Jay made sure they stayed in touch. The two began dating and three years later while Tara spent the afternoon shopping with her mother, sister and grandmother, Jay was busy asking her father’s permission for her hand in marriage. To honor the intimacy of the day, Jay orchestrated an at-home proposal, which was captured on video and then shared with family and friends at the reception.

The reception room was bathed in LED lights that matched those of the bridesmaid’s bouquets and shoes. There were large centerpieces on each table made of an explosion of white dendrobium orchids atop large glass vases. “My inspiration was an idea that my bridesmaid Kasey Johnson and I came up with. Every bridesmaid would wear a simple black dress but each girl in a different color pair of shoes. Like a domino effect this idea determined everything from the groomsmen’s ties and boutonnieres to the lighting at the reception,” said Tara. The groomsmen even changed into Adidas Superstar gym shoes with their assigned color laces for the reception. | BRIDE’S GOWN Blue by Enzoani from The Dress by Nicole, Wheaton. | VEIL Tara’s veil was her “something borrowed” from bridesmaid Bray Judycki.
