AN ITALIAN AFFAIR
Andrea and Luke dated because she lost a bet. The two met at a Kiss concert at
Alpine Valley, Wisconsin, in 2003. “We chatted throughout the night and made a playful bet as
to what would be the final encore song. If I won, she had to go out with me,” says Luke.
Luckily for them both, Luke “won” the bet. Both from Italian families, they included many
Italian features to their wedding—among them, serving
sambuca con mosca, a Sicilian drink, and gelato.

CEREMONY
The traditional Catholic wedding mass was held at the recently renovated Notre Dame de Chicago. With its gorgeous stained glass and dome, Andrea and Luke decided the church needed no additional decoration.
RECEPTION
Gallery 1028, with its wood floors, timber beams and exposed brick, gave a modern, urban feel to Andrea and Luke’s reception. To add to the art gallery feel of the space, they went to Brian Walker, owner of DiscoveredArtists.com. Walker, an abstract artist who paints very large, mixed media art on canvas, filled the gallery with his large, colorful paintings.
WEDDING CONSULTANT
Melissa Phillips for day of event coordination.
INVITATIONS Custom-designed by Erin Anderson of Paperina, Chicago, it was a chocolate brown tri-fold card, accented with an Italian paper and embossed with a “D” monogram designed for the couple. The Italian paper inspired the look and colors of the entire wedding.
CAKE
Since both Andrea and Luke are Italian they served a cannoli cake from The Italian Bakery, Addison. “We still have friends and family raving about how delicious our cake was!” says Luke.
LIGHTING
Len Woelfel of Chicago Lighting Design added to the beauty of the reception space using uplights and small LED lighting. Lighting along the walls gradually changed colors during the night adding ambience.
MUSIC DJs
Kevin Beacham and Plain Ole Bill from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
BRIDAL GOWN Pronovias, raw silk strapless dress with heavier beading at bust that gently dissipates down the skirt.
FAVORS
Take away boxes in the wedding colors of chocolate brown and pear green with the “D” monogram from the invitations. Guests could fill these up with mini-Italian pastries and cakes for a treat the next day.
