Contest Winner Story
Sara Czarnecki
I met Chuck at Lake Forest College late in the school year in 2000 when I was a freshman and he was a senior. Our connection was instant and we spent a lot of time together in the last few months of school. Unfortunately, Chuck’s graduation day came quickly and we went our separate ways. Over the summer, we thought about each other a lot, but only kept in touch by a few random emails.
It wasn’t until October of 2000 that we ran into each other again on campus when Chuck was visiting. Not long after, we officially started dating. We shared time at school and in the city where Chuck lived. We had a lot of fun together but took our relationship slowly. We created amazing memories at sorority formals, parties, birthdays, holidays, and every other day.
Over the years, Chuck and I went through a lot together: his dad passed away, I graduated from school, and he was transferred to Springfield, Illinois for work. We spent 2 years dating long distance and also took time off from our relationship in 2005. Through it all, our love for each other never died and by the end of 2006, we were back together and stronger than ever. In 2007, we made the decision to move in together and take our relationship to the next level. Our memories now are even richer than before from making our first home together and sharing our first Christmas there.
In February of 2008, Chuck proposed in the intimacy of our home. He surprised me the day after Valentine’s Day with a gorgeous vintage ring. We immediately drove to my mom’s house to share the good news. Afterwards, we celebrated downtown at the Italian Village, our favorite restaurant. We were both glowing with excitement all night and for days to follow.
Although, at times our lives have seemed to be moving in divergent directions, through the challenges we realized our roads are intertwined and our hearts are one. Our wedding will be the culmination of a love that has endured and thrived. We look forward to everything our future has to offer.
