Do you believe that everything happens for a reason? I know I do! For five years, my fiancé, Nelson and I had several close encounters but never met. We went to the same University, graduated the same day, shared the same acquaintances and even hung out at the same places in Chicago. Our paths didn’t cross until March 2003 when we both worked at a restaurant waiting tables. With all the coincidences we shared, we couldn’t believe we had never met before!
We had finally found each other and by the Spring of 2004 we knew we were “right” for each other. Having faced so many hurdles before finally meeting, there was still one more hurdle we had to face before we could get married. Nelson was still active in the Marine Corps he was called to duty in Iraq. I was devastated to hear the news, especially since we were talking about marriage. His departure happened so quickly, we decided to wait to get married until he came back. Even though time was not on our side and he knew we were going to be apart, he still decided to propose!
We went to the 95th Floor of the John Hancock Center for our last dinner before his departure in August of 2004. That’s when he totally surprised me by asking me to marry him! I was so happy with his proposal, but sad at the same time because I knew he would be risking his life everyday for the next year, and there may be a chance I would never see him again. I prayed everyday for his safe return home.
Nelson made his safe return home in April of last year, and we are closer than ever. I am so glad that he is home because I would be lost with out my one true love. Being away in Iraq has really given us a different perspective about what really matters. We know that time is precious and we are excited about planning our wedding.
We will be married on September 2, 2006 at St. Margaret Mary Church on the north side of Chicago, IL. Our reception will be held at The Avalon in Elk Grove Village, IL. We are looking forward to sharing this day with each other and all of our loved ones!
I would like to thank ChicagoStyle Weddings for offering such a great assortment of vendor referrals. They have helped me make prudent decisions on various aspects of my wedding. I found the perfect wedding gown at the House of Brides bridal shop. The groomsmen’s tuxedos will be rented from Top Notch Tuxedos. Our florist from Son Ray Events has been very helpful and easy to work with and we have also chosen a photographer from Whispers Photography. These are just a few of the vendors that are offered through ChicagoStyle Magazine and Website.
